£8m facelift for Tigerlily and Rick’s

HOSPITALITY firm Mont­peliers is extending its refurbishment programme to two boutique hotels after securing a £8.4 million funding package from Bank of Scotland.

The owner of seven licensed Edinburgh venues said it would revamp the accommodation at Tigerlily and Rick’s following the success of the recent £1m upgrade of its Indigo Yard and Montpeliers Bruntsfield units.

Managing director David Wither said: “A key part of our company strategy is to regularly upgrade and refresh our outlets, endeavouring where possible to introduce improvements in ergonomics and better usage of space, as well as creating attractive designs and ambiences, which we hope our clientele will find engaging, inviting, comfortable and safe.

“The city of Edinburgh has a very dynamic and fast-changing licensed leisure sector. We have total respect for the skills and ambitions of our competitors, both old and new, and we realise we have to work very hard at maintaining our position as the provider of some of the best hospitality Edinburgh has to offer to its citizens and to its many tourists. Re-investment is an important part of our strategy to maintain and grow our competitive edge.”

Wither added: “Our significant investment of £2m over a two-year stretch underlines the confidence which Montpeliers has in the economic stability of Scotland’s capital city.”

He said that the firm, established in 2002, has enjoyed “a long working relationship with Bank of Scotland”.

The refurbishment of Tigerlily is scheduled for early summer with the Rick’s upgrade following later in the year.
