The discount clothing and homewares chain, which does not sell online, said it would cater for the anticipated higher customer demand during the final countdown to Christmas.

It is reopening stores on Friday that were affected by the Scottish Government’s level four trading restrictions on non-essential retail premises.

Primark Braehead near Glasgow will open at 9am on Friday and stay open for a full 36 hours right through until 9pm on Saturday 12 December. All other stores across Scotland will trade until at least 8pm on weekdays until December 23, the firm said.

The flagship Edinburgh Princes Street store will remain open until 10pm every day apart from Sunday, when it closes at 7pm. Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird outlet is opening until midnight every weekday.

The firm said there would be “strict” physical distancing protocols, limits on the number of customers allowed in store, hand sanitisation stations on entry, screens or cubicles at tills, the use of face masks in-store and increased in-store cleaning.

Primark chief executive Paul Marchant said: “We are delighted to re-open all of our stores in Scotland on December 11, with longer shopping hours to give our customers more time to safely do their festive shopping.

“We have everything this season that our customers expect from Primark, including our famous Christmas jumpers, festive pyjamas and much, much more. All of our extensive safety measures remain in place to help ensure shopping at Primark is an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone.”
