Premier League kicks off Ofcom challenge

THE English Premier League has reportedly instructed its lawyers to draw up a legal challenge to Ofcom's ruling that BSkyB must lower the prices it charges rivals to air valuable sports content.

The Premier League is thought to be concerned that the price cuts will reduce competition for football rights.

Lawyers at DLA Piper are understood to be drawing up a feasibility study on the Premier League's behalf. The results are expected in two weeks' time.

Ofcom last week ruled that Sky should cut the sum it charges rivals, such as BT and Virgin Media, for Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 content by 23 per cent per subscriber per month.
