He closed his Tony’s Table bistro in 2010 and rooftop restaurant Oloroso in Castle Street two years ago.

Now the TV chef, who has cooked alongside Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles and the Roux brothers, is planning another venture, thought to be another restaurant, although he’s not saying where or when it may take off. In the meantime, he has been focusing on a new cook book, which is due out next month.

Capital downturn

There is speculation that the Daily Record is to pull the plug on Edinburgh Now, a weekly insert aimed at the capital.

Edinburgh Now was launched only last July on a “positive news” ticket, but the not so positive news reaching the People column is that it has not been able to drive enough revenue to sustain it. There was no reply to calls left over the weekend to Media Scotland managing director and editor in chief Allan Rennie.

In the swing

The Scottish Seniors Golfing Society has attracted backing from experienced sports sponsor McCrea Financial Services (MFS), which has already supported Glasgow Warriors and Partick Thistle.

MFS Managing director Douglas McCrea, said the Seniors would add to its involvement in golf through the annual charity day, which takes place this year on the Duke’s course at St Andrews on 5 May.

Dinsmore dines out

David Dinsmore, editor of the Sun, will be heading to the Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday night to speak at the Marketing Society’s latest Albion Dinner.

Dinsmore is one of four speakers in this series, sponsored by Denolm Associates. Innis & Gunn boss Dougal Sharp was the first in January and next up is Christian Arno, founder of translation service Lingo24 on 28 August. Will Whitehorn, formerly one of Sir Richard Branson’s right-hand men and now chairman of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre will close the series on 4 November.
