Oracle to cut jobs

ORACLE is cutting more jobs as part of its takeover of Sun Microsystems.

The software firm said in a regulatory filing in the US that the new round of cuts would mostly hit employees in Europe and Asia.

It didn't specify how many employees would be laid off but it did admit that this latest restructuring would be at least twice as expensive as the one initiated after closing the Sun deal in January.

In Scotland, Oracle employed about 90 people at an office in Edinburgh while Sun had about 500 staff in West Lothian. Oracle said earlier this year that it would integrate the two offices and relocate its Scottish headquarters to Linlithgow.
