Omega’s test kits get fast track to western markets

MEDICAL testing-kit maker Omega Diagnostics has signed a deal under which a peer will distribute its products in the UK, United States and a number of other western markets.

The Alva-based firm said Immunodiagnostic Systems (IDS), a partner which makes equipment that runs some of Omega’s test, will act as its exclusive distributor in markets were IDS already has a presence.

The move is expected to provide IDS customers with an increased menu of tests and will allow Omega to reduce its time to market for a raft of more than 40 allergy tests that it plans to launch in the next 12 months.

Omega also delivered an update on trading yesterday, in which it said revenues for the past financial year should be around £11.3 million – thanks in part to its decision to start selling directly in India.

Chief executive Andrew Shepherd said: “We are pleased with the performance of the business and to have managed profitability in challenging economic conditions.

“Our decision to go direct in the Indian market has been vindicated with a strong performance from the new team.”
