New owners to invest £400,000 in Barony Castle Hotel

Barony Castle Hotel in Peebles has been sold to management in a deal backed by NatWest, which has ploughed £2 million in the business.

Richard Spanner, managing director of key shareholder Prestige Hotel Management, said £400,000 will be invested in the three-star venue to bring it up to four-star standard. It will also be rebranded under the Mercure banner, which is owned by French hotels giant Accor.

The investment will be overseen by estate director Scott Weatherby, and plans have also been unveiled to spend £70,000 restoring a Grade B listed map of Scotland that is located in the hotel grounds. The three-dimensional concrete map, completed in 1975, was the brainchild of Polish war veteran and former hotel owner Jan Tomasik.

Spanner added: “The planned £400,000 investment will help to raise the standard of the hotel as we plan to bring it under the Mercure hotel franchise.”
