New North Sea waste hub planned for port of Dundee

Forth Ports and Augean North Sea Services (ANSS) are to unveil a project today to open a 'state of the art' decommissioning waste management hub at the port of Dundee ­early next year.

The new 25,000 sq ft material transfer facility is aimed at enabling the port to offer an integrated service to the emerging North Sea decommissioning market.

It follows a £10 million investment by Forth Ports in a new quayside at Dundee, announced earlier this year, which is due to come on stream by late 2017.

ANSS manages waste streams derived from North Sea exploration at five sites in Shetland, Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth.

Charles Hammond, chief executive of Forth Ports, said: “This new waste management facility, coupled with our multi-million pound investment in a new quayside, is important for the port, which is ideally placed to service the needs of the North Sea oil and gas decommissioning sector.”
