Murray Asset Management poaches Forsyth from rival

INVESTMENT manager Amanda Forsyth has left Charlotte Square Managers to join Murray Asset Management, where she has been charged with growing the firm’s client base.

Forsyth described her new role as a “great opportunity” and said she wanted to expand her specialism in the Alternative Investment Market (Aim).

Ruthven Gemmell, chief executive at Murray Asset Management and a former president of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “We are delighted that Amanda has joined us to strengthen our investment and business development teams and build on our continuing success.”

Murray Asset Management, which was spun-out of law firm Murray Beith Murray in 2008, looks after £275 million of clients’ funds under management. Forsyth, known for her appearances on the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland radio programme, spent two-and-a-half years at Charlotte Square Managers.

Her departure from the Edinburgh-based boutique, which manages about £100m-worth of funds, follows that of business development director Stephen Webster, who has joined Dundee-based law firm Thorntons as its investment services director.

Webster was appointed to Thorntons at the same time as chartered financial planner Barry Davidson, who joined from Standard Life.

Prior to her spell with Charlotte Square Managers, Forsyth worked at Adam & Co but was among a series of high-profile departures from the private bank, which is owned by Royal Bank of Scotland.

Her departure followed that of chief investment officer Gareth Howlett, who took a whole team with him to open the Edinburgh office of wealth manager Brooks Macdonald.

Brewin Dolphin also raided Adam & Co in 2010, luring away a seven-strong team.

Forsyth’s previous appointments have included managing the UK equity growth fund at Standard Life Investments and the management of private client and charity portfolios at Greig Middleton.
