The independent charity, established by Sir Bill Gammell in 2006, seeks to create a nation of young people who achieve their personal best in life, through programmes that work with coaches, parents and teachers across sports clubs, schools and communities. Following Townsend’s retirement from playing rugby union, he worked for Winning Scotland Foundation on a full and part-time basis from 2008-2010 and has continued to champion the work of the charity ever since.

Thomson Cooper has announced a key appointment to its senior team as part of the firm’s growth strategy across Scotland. Elaine Cromwell, based at the Dunfermline office, has been promoted to the position of partner. She started with Thomson Cooper in 1990 as a trainee accountant, qualifying as a chartered certified accountant in 1996. Following a three-year break working in industry, she re-joined the firm in 2003 before being made an associate in 2005.

Legal firm Harper Macleod has bolstered its family law team with the recruitment of partner Jenny Smith. Smith, who is accredited as a family law specialist by the Law Society of Scotland, was previously a partner with Family Law Matters. Alan Susskind, head of family law at Harper Macleod, said: “We are delighted that Jenny has chosen to join us as we continue to grow our presence across the country.”

Macduff Shellfish has appointed a Marine Management Organisation executive to harness its sustainability commitments. Sarah Pilgrim-Morrison is head of the fishing effort management and acting head of statistics and analysis at the Marine Management Organisation. Macduff Shellfish was bought by Canadian-based Clearwater Seafoods in a £98.4 million deal last year.

Small business specialist TaxAssist Accountants is celebrating continued growth with a new appointment. Renee Mackay, who established the practice in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, in 2010, has promoted Rowena Lloyd to operations director. Lloyd, who has worked in the operation for 18 months as office manager, will be responsible for work flow, IT and managing the team. The firm now serves some 750 small business clients.
