Most lawyers from Semple Fraser in new posts

ALMOST three-quarters of the Scots lawyers made redundant when Semple Fraser went into administration a fortnight ago have found employment with other practices.

Administrators at accountancy firm RSM Tenon said that 18 out of the 25 solicitors employed by the collapsed firm at its Edinburgh and Glasgow offices had found work elsewhere. In addition, 12 trainees have found employment elsewhere, while a further three will start their traineeship with firms in September.

The joint administrators believe that a number of former administrative staff might also have found employment during the last two weeks, however figures are not available.

Tom MacLennan, head of restructuring at RSM Tenon in Scotland and joint administrator, said: “We are pleased at the progress made since the administration and grateful to those firms that have moved so quickly to provide employment for former staff.”

Semple Fraser’s Manchester operations had already been sold to Weightmans, saving 14 jobs..
