Grier, previously the US group’s education business manager north of the Border, takes over from Chris Forrest, who launched the Scottish Gaelic language pack for Microsoft Office and will now move on to focus on the firm’s UK financial services business.

“As a company, we care deeply about helping Scottish businesses succeed and transform,” said Grier, who played a key role in developing Microsoft’s support organisation and in expanding its Scottish education business.

He added: “We’ve got the best talent in the industry and I look forward to working with great local partners to maximise the way in which our technology can help people achieve more in Scotland.”

In his new role, Grier will be responsible for implementing the group’s national business plan for Scotland, including creating more jobs in its IT apprenticeship and skills programme.
