Metal giants alloyed for Glasgow venture

TWO of the world's biggest producers of speciality metals have joined forces with Strathclyde University on a multimillion-pound research centre, which will open near Glasgow Airport this year.

US-based Titanium Metals and French company Aubert & Duval will join Scottish Enterprise and engineering giants Rolls-Royce, Boeing and Mettis Aerospace as partners at the Advanced Forming Research Centre.

About 45 jobs will be created at the centre, which aims to develop technologies in metal forming and forging to improve components for aircraft, automotive and marine projects.
