Bell, who has been in the role since June 2013, is a former finance director of Gatwick Airport and is due to leave Edinburgh-based Menzies on 29 July.

She will be succeeded by Giles Wilson, who has been with the baggage handler and newspaper distributor for five years in a variety of senior roles, including finance director of Menzies Aviation. Most recently he has been based in Dubai as senior vice-president of its Middle East, India and African regions.

Menzies chairman Iain Napier said yesterday: “On behalf of the board I would like to thank Paula for her contribution since she joined in 2013. She leaves with our best wishes as she embarks on the next stage of her career.

“I am also delighted to welcome Giles to the board. He has been part of our succession plans and I am confident that he will make a positive impact in his new role and will further strengthen our capabilities going forward.”

In January, Menzies surprised the City by announcing the departure of chief executive Jeremy Stafford for “personal reasons” after just over a year in the role.

Bell is due to join Sprirent’s board as its chief financial officer on 5 September. The firm announced in November that finance chief Rachel Whiting had decided to retire after 30 years’ service.

Last month, Menzies posted a drop in full-year profit following a “challenging” 2015.
