Megabus is now big in Texas

TRANSPORT group Stagecoach is expanding its budget coach service, Megabus, in America with a move into Texas.

The announcement came just a fortnight after the Perth-based business agreed a £101 million deal to buy back large parts of the Coach America business it sold almost ten years ago and which is under bankruptcy protection.

The Texas routes – which will run from Dallas, Houston and San Antonio – will initially be operated under contract by Coach America, which also runs a Megabus hub in Atlanta that serves 11 cities.

Megabus, which is now one of the largest intercity express bus service providers in North America, has carried more than 18 million passengers since it was launched in the US and Canada six years ago.
