Martin named as SCDI’s next boss

The Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI) yesterday named Ross Martin as its next chief executive.

Martin, who is currently policy director at the Centre for Scottish Public Policy (CSPP) think tank, will succeed Lesley Sawers, who announced in March that she would stand down to join Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) as vice-principal for business development.

Sawers, who joined the trade body in 2008 after serving as Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s first female chief executive and who was already a visiting professor at GCU, left SCDI in June.

Martin joined the CSPP in 2004, from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where he was director of the Scottish Forum for Modern Government.
