Many Scots still nursing Christmas hangovers

ALMOST one in ten Scots are still paying for overspending at Christmas, new research has shown.

A survey by Halifax found that nine per cent of households in Scotland are still paying off debts on a credit card, through their overdraft or via a loan, which were run up over the festive period, with younger people more likely than the older generation to still have a Christmas hangover to pay off.

Anthony Warrington, head of current accounts at Halifax, said: “We all face unforeseen costs from time to time, but Christmas shouldn’t be one of them. It’s an expensive time as it is, but not budgeting in advance can cost more in the long run.”
