INTERTEK, the FTSE 100 industrial technology firm at which Scottish Enterprise chief executive Lena Wilson serves as a non-executive director, yesterday posted a rise in profits thanks to growth in emerging markets.

Half-year pre-tax profits climbed by 4.8 per cent to £127.9 million following “robust growth” in areas such as China, India and the Middle East.

But chief executive Wolfhart Hauser noted: “The margin was lower, mainly as a result of the decline in the minerals business, weak European market conditions and investment in new businesses. In response, our
previously-announced restructuring programme is progressing.”
