Leonardo has not only tirelessly worked to provide key supplies for the Armed Forces’ current and future programmes in response to the pandemic, but the company’s employees also produced PPE for the NHS on top of their daily duties.

Specialists normally involved in the development of hi-tech radars, for use on RAF aircraft, rescue helicopters and for other military purposes, turned their attention to tackling the Covid pandemic.

Head of Corporate and International at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Alexia Haramis, justified the choice of Leonardo by explaining: “They have gone over and above throughout the pandemic to innovate, meet new demands and support those in need.”

Leonardo was one of just five companies nominated by the British Chambers of Commerce and the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, which also included Cyrenians, ClearWater Hygiene, Parabola, and Edinburgh Remakery.

HRH The Countess of Wessex also supports the initiative and expressed her awe for the efforts of UK businesses in a letter that reads: “It has given me great pride to hear how businesses have gone the extra mile to help during the coronavirus pandemic.”

Leonardo’s employees have not only exceeded the expectations of the The British Chambers of Commerce and the UK’s local Chambers of Commerce, but also of the heads of their own company.

Senior Vice President of Radar & Advanced Targeting at Leonardo, Mark Stead, said: “It has been during these exceptional times that we have really seen our employees come into their own.

"They have gone out of their way to not only adapt to changing circumstances but excel to provide the technology and capability that has helped to support the armed forces in their tireless efforts.”
