Jonathan Edwards flies flag for marketing

OLYMPIC gold medallist Jonathan Edwards will address the Marketing Society Scotland’s St Andrew’s Day dinner next week when the inaugural winner of the Ogilvy award for marketing leadership overseas will be announced.

Rory Sutherland, vice-chairman of the Ogilvy Group UK, will also speak, championing the significance of Scotland’s international marketing role and the new Ogilvy accolade. Fiona Hyslop, the Cabinet secretary for culture and external affairs, will present the award.

The dinner, at the George Hotel, Edinburgh, on 8 December, is supported by Bank of Scotland and the Scottish Government. The Scotsman is a corporate sponsor.

Edwards said: “Bank of Scotland has harnessed a passion for the Games and developed a programme of initiatives that engages young people, colleagues, customers, businesses and communities throughout Scotland.

“This event provides a great opportunity to highlight the parallels that can be drawn between business and sport.”

Hyslop said: “Inventiveness, creativity and internationalism are deep-seated characteristics of our national identity. These qualities are personified by David Ogilvy and the Ogilvy Award is a fitting way to recognise the role of our marketing community in enhancing Scotland’s reputation on the global stage.”
