Intel results provide hope for recovery

CHIP maker Intel posted fourth-quarter results that beat most market expectations yesterday.

Seen as a bellwether for the computer sector, Intel reported a $2.3 billion (1.4bn) profit, with revenue up 29 per cent to $10.6bn.

Intel's positive results signalled that the recession-battered computer industry may finally be on the road to recovery. However, shares slipped in morning trade.
