Image of shirt and tie knot what it was

IT was once the staple office uniform – but now the days of the collar and tie appear to be numbered.

Around three-quarters of workers believe that the tie will become extinct in British offices within 50 years, while more than half think it will disappear within the next two decades, according to a poll by DealJungle.com.

For many young professionals, the image of a shirt and tie has become synonymous with stuffy careers such as accountancy or the legal profession – while many offices now adopt a much more casual dress code.

“Ties have been around seemingly forever, but increasing numbers of office workers are telling them to get knotted,” said a spokesman for the website.
