Historic Glasgow pub back in 'local' hands after decades

ONE of Glasgow's oldest pubs has been sold to Glasgow entrepreneur Oli Norman in a £1 million deal, writes Erikka Askeland.

Norman, the founder of marketing firm Dada, and Stephen White, the tenant landlord of Sloan's in the city centre, have acquired the pub and restaurant at auction.

It came up for sale after its former owner, Kilmartin, went into administration. The property was part of a portfolio of former Kilmartin properties acquired by listed property firm Hansteen earlier this year, which Hansteen is now selling.

Sloans, in the city's historic Argyll Arcade, is a Grade A listed building which houses three bars, a restaurant and a grand ballroom over three floors. It can trace its origins to 1797.

Norman said this would be the first time the property was back in Glasgow hands in decades.

He said: "We have been wanting to buy it for a long time but the building kept on going in and out of administration and in different hands. It has been an ongoing saga, but we finally got it.

"We have invested heavily in the property over the past four years to bring Sloans back to its former glory and introduced a full events programme, significantly improved the food and beverage offering as well as establishing the venue as a favourite for weddings, ceilidhs and celebrations."
