The firm said it did not see any decline in business during lockdown, with no staff furloughed and some temporary workers brought in,while it has a full order book and was recently awarded a number of “high-profile” projects.

MD Hector Munro said: “Now that everyone has a real stake in Grossarts, we were determined that the business will be a success. Now that the employees own the business, there is transparency with the numbers and we know what has to be done. There is a deep confidence that we will win through.”

In terms of boosting the ranks, Kenny Campbell joined as a senior engineer in July and it is intended that a new associate will start next month. Such moves come after Elspeth Brown and Cameron Colburn joined in January.

Former owners Bill Grossart and John MacDonald sold the firm to an employee ownership trust a year ago in a deal part-funded by Barclays Bank. Both have remained with the business as employees.

Grossart said: “We had every confidence that the employees could take the business to the next level. It’s worked out well for John and me. We’re enjoying still being involved and feel more able to take time off and get a bit of life balance back. The team has risen to the challenge and taken on the responsibility of driving Grossarts forward.”
