Glasgow IP firm cheers tenth anniversary with turnover surge and celebratory whisky

Lawrie IP, the Glasgow-headquartered intellectual property firm, is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a further double-digit hike in turnover.

To mark its tenth anniversary, Lawrie IP has had ten bottles of a ten-year old single malt whisky bottled by one of its clients, fellow Glasgow-based firm Douglas Laing & Company.

The firm said it had experienced substantial growth over the past decade, with an increase in turnover of at least 20 per cent each year since its first year of trading. It has grown from one person in 2010 – founder Donald Lawrie – to 28 employees.

The latest accounts show turnover increased to about £2.7 million in the 12 months to June, from £2.2m in the previous 12 months.

A further recruitment drive to meet client demand should see the business grow to 35 staff by 2023.

Last year, the firm located to larger premises, moving into refurbished offices at 310 St Vincent Street in Glasgow – formerly Whyte & MacKay’s global headquarters.

Lawrie said: “It has been really rewarding to see Lawrie IP grow to be an established and successful IP firm with a turnover of £2.7m in the space of ten years.

“Since starting out we’ve recruited many excellent people and we have enjoyed working with clients across a range of sectors, from food and drink to life sciences.

“Despite Covid-19, we’ve managed to further expand the firm in the last few months and have made a number of significant appointments.

“I’d also like to thank the Scottish business community for the support we’ve received in the last ten years.”
