A STARTUP which has received Scottish Government backing is looking to tap into one of the fastest growing areas of technology with the launch of a health app aimed at physical and mental wellbeing.

Ginsberg – both the name of the Edinburgh-based business and the online tool itself – has already attracted more than 1,000 users in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. It is targeting a health app market that is geared primarily towards physical rather than mental health, which the firm’s founders see as a considerable opportunity. About one in four Britons is thought to suffer from some form of mental health issue.

As well as aiming at this segment of the population, Ginsberg believes its tool holds wider appeal as people look to maintain their general psychological health. Recent industry data revealed that apps in the health and fitness category are growing almost 90 per cent faster than any other type of smartphone application.

Following its launch into the UK market, Ginsberg expects to roll out the app internationally in the new year. Data from the software can be fed into an “insights engine”, allowing integration with social networks.
