Ian Curle – chief executive at Edrington, which also makes whiskies including Highland Park, the Macallan and Cutty Sark – said “Norman’s vast experience in business will be an important asset as the Group plans its next phase of growth.”

Murray will join the board on 1 April and will sit alongside fellow non-executive directors Ronnie Bell, who is chairman of Premier Foods, and Callum Barton, former president and chief executive of Richemont North America.

The board is chaired by Sir Ian Good.
