Emissions clean-up deadline extension

OLDER European power plants may get longer to clean up emissions under a new compromise proposed in Brussels.

Opt-outs from a new EU industrial emissions directive could be extended by six months at a national level and by a year for individual installations.

The CBI estimates that 14 UK power stations are affected by the new directive.

Energy generators are expected to be given until June 2019 to upgrade power plants to comply. The CBI has argued that energy generators need until 2021 to carry out the work.
