Egg–stra DIY on the menu at Easter

DIY stores are expecting a busy Easter weekend, with more than a third of homeowners planning on doing some work around the house, according to a new survey.

However, researchers found that many people look to family members for help with a DIY project rather than seeking advice from experts.

Of those questioned, 45 per cent of women and 36 per cent of men turn to a family member for help, with only 13 per cent of both sexes asking for advice from either their local DIY store or through speaking to a skilled tradesman.

And one in five of the 1,000 people polled by home improvements firm Wickes admitted suffering DIY disasters in the past.

Mark Edwards, DIY category controller for Wickes, commented: “Family members can be a great source of help and inspiration, but not all of us are fortunate enough to have dads or granddads who can teach us the tricks of the trade.”
