Dentists sink teeth into 5-star surgery

TWO dentists have raised £750,000 from Royal Bank of Scotland and their own resources to open a surgery in Edinburgh that will be one of the most advanced of its kind in the UK.

"Lubiju" has been designed to combine the latest treatment techniques with the ambience of a five-star hotel.

Doctors Lubino do Rego and Biju Krishnan previously created the Scottish Dental Implant Centre in their Drake Dental Practice in Edinburgh, which is open to NHS patients.

Now they have opened Lubiju at Commercial Quay in Leith to concentrate on advanced techniques in cosmetic dentistry, catering for Scotland's ever-growing portfolio of private patients.

Patients are treated to the sort of comforts they might expect at home. Each of the three suites has a flat-screen television on the ceiling so patients can watch DVDs during longer treatments such as laser tooth whitening. Each suite also has ceiling-mounted cameras that can relay surgical and cosmetic procedures to dentists elsewhere in the practice – or anywhere in the world – for training purposes.

Dr Krishnan said: "We are looking at everything from the most advanced implants and surgical methods to breakthroughs in needle-free and painless treatments and also the most up-to-date cosmetic dentistry."

Lubiju has its own massage and complementary therapy treatment room, and is building a reputation for attracting leading alternative medicine practitioners. Dr Krishnan said: "It means we treat the mind, the body and the spirit."
