Deadline looms over tuition and coaching tax crackdown

PRIVATE tutors and coaches have less than three weeks to come forward with details of any tax the have failed to declare, under an HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) crackdown.

The tax catch-up plan was launched in October to encourage those making money from tuition and private coaching to tell HMRC of the income they make from the work. Tutors and coaches have until 6 January, 2012, to register for the plan and qualify for the favourable terms offered by HMRC. They will then have until 31 March to disclose and pay any tax due. Those who fail to register may be targeted by HMRC and potentially face higher penalties.

• Registration is at Hmrc.gov.uk or by calling 0845 601 8817.
