Whisky merchant and blender Edinburgh Whisky is planning to expand its range after securing funding from Clydesdale Bank.
The firm was launched in August by Gordon Watt and Gregor Mathieson, who drew inspiration from the capital’s history with the first tipples to hit the shelves – The Advocates Batch from its New Town Blends range and two single malt cask releases from the Library Collection.
It is now looking to grow with new single cask offerings, again based on the landmarks of Edinburgh’s Old Town and New Town, being introduced in November.
Watt said: “We’ve been extremely encouraged by the response following our launch, with our whisky already available from a number of our target stockists; so it goes without saying that we’re looking forward to bringing new products to market later this year to build on the current momentum.
“The funding from Clydesdale Bank has come at just the right time, and has allowed us to invest further in the company to help build a solid base from which to grow. Whisky is already Scotland’s number one export and we have ambitious plans to tap into the global market through our long-term focus on overseas markets.”
The funding deal was conducted by Jill Jardine, relationship manager at Clydesdale Bank’s business and private banking centre in Edinburgh.
