THE owner of Ocean Terminal in Leith, Resolution Property, is investing £1 million to increase the space dedicated to catering outlets while retail is in the doldrums.

Work has started that will open up views to Edinburgh Castle and Calton Hill in addition to the panorama available to bar and restaurant goers overlooking the Firth of Forth and the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Subjit Jassy, investment manager at Resolution, said: “Retail’s woes have been widely reported, but it is clear to us that the mix of shopping, leisure, eating and drinking that we have at Ocean Terminal is the way forward.”

Centre manager Dennis Jones said the refurbishment would cause “minimal inconvenience”. Work is due to complete in the autumn.

The European property investor acquired the mall from Forth Ports last year for about £90m.
