CONSTRUCTION firm Kier Group yesterday won a £100 million contract from French utility firm EDF to prepare land in Somerset for the building of a nuclear power station.

Kier said the contract at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station will create 350 jobs.

EDF is taking the lead in building Britain’s next generation of nuclear reactors after buying East Kilbride-based British Energy in a £12.4 billion deal three years ago. Contracts worth a total of £500m were signed last week in Paris by Areva, EDF and Rolls-Royce.
