PERTHSHIRE farmer Michael Blanche has been appointed Quality Meat Scotland’s new part-time sheep strategy development officer (north).

Responsible for development of the Scottish sheep strategy in the north of Scotland and working closely with his south of Scotland counterpart Katie Keiley, his focus will be on increasing the uptake of breeding technologies leading to a range of benefits for the Scottish sheep producers including reduced production costs, improvement in the quality and consistency of Scotch lamb and an increased demand for recorded breeding stock. Blanche farms 515 acres at Culteuchar Farm near Perth with a flock of 650 ewes, Scottish Blackfaces, Wiltshire Horn cross Texels and Lleyns.

He was previously an SAC agricultural adviser and latterly an independent farm consultant.
