BRITAIN'S big freeze has helped Halfords notch up a surge in sales of car maintenance products as motorists rushed to buy new batteries and wiper blades.

The car parts and bike group said the pre-Christmas cold snap contributed to an 8 per cent hike in car maintenance sales in the 13 weeks to New Year's Day. Halfords also imported more sledges from Norway after stocks ran out.
