Citizens Advice has a major role today, says new head

THE new head of Citizens Advice Scotland has said she is looking forward to taking over one of the biggest jobs in the voluntary sector.

Margaret Lynch, who is currently the director of the Scottish Mediation Network, will take up the post in July.

Her previous experience has included prominent roles at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, War on Want and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund.

Yesterday Lynch said: “I’m thrilled to have been appointed to what I regard as one of the biggest jobs in the Scottish voluntary sector.

“The CAB service is enormously trusted and respected by the public, the third sector and the political establishment alike. That’s because of the crucial and unique role it plays – both locally and nationally – in helping vulnerable people and influencing public policy.

“This has never been more true than it is at the moment. The recession, welfare reforms and public sector cuts are putting huge pressures on vulnerable Scots.

“CAS has been right at the forefront of campaigning on those issues and securing change, and it must continue to play that role.

“At the same time, the advice sector itself is facing enormous challenges, with huge funding cuts amid ever-growing client demand, and with significant changes in its own structure, brought by the reform of the consumer landscape.”
