Cairn starts to drill after protest ends

CAIRN Energy yesterday said it had started drilling on two wells off the coast of Greenland after environmental campaigners were removed from a rig.

Protesters left the Leiv Eiriksson rig after intervention by the Greenland authorities and the Edinburgh-based oil company has also started legal proceedings in the Netherlands against Greenpeace to halt any further disruption to its drilling.

"An update on the drilling operations will be provided in due course," added Cairn.
