Business news in brief: Stonepack

The Forfar-based firm, run by husband-and-wife team Anna and Hayden Thomas, has opened a branch in Broxburn at the Greendykes Industrial Estate. Stonepack expects to create ten jobs over the next two years as it starts to work with builders’ merchants in the area.

Director Hayden Thomas said the expansion marked its “first serious move into the Central Belt”. He added: “I see this being a really important move for us.”

Retail Quarter to bring 200 jobs

SHOPPING centre operator Land Securities yesterday revealed that the tenants at its latest Buchanan Quarter development in Glasgow will create more than 200 jobs when the site opens next month.

Stores lined up for the centre, opposite Land Sec’s existing Buchanan Galleries site, include fashion chain Forever 21, stationery retailer Paperchase and footwear brand Skechers. The development also includes 49 flats, with a gym, lounge and roof garden.

The firm said it had created 100 jobs during the construction phase of the project.

Infrared firm sets sights on America

Pyreos, an Edinburgh-based infrared technology company, has established a sales operation in the United States to sell its sensor arrays to mobile device manufacturers.

The company has hired Jeff Gray, a seasoned tech company director, as vice-president of worldwide sales, as well as a US sales director, Roy Goodloe. The company has also appointed Howard Ford, former managing director of telecom network company Equant Network Services, as chairman.

Last year Pyreos secured  £5.5 million in a second round of funding.
