Business briefs: Amnesty renews its attack on Vedanta | £5.5m cash boost for wind developer

CAMPAIGN group Amnesty International will today renew its attack on FTSE 100 miner Vedanta Resources’ human rights record in east India.

Vedanta, which holds its annual general meeting today, is accused by the charity of not telling local people about pollution from its sites.

Cairn Energy, the Edinburgh-based oil explorer, sold its controlling stake in its Indian subsidiary, Cairn India, to Vedanta last year.

INVESTMENT manager Connection Capital has raised more than £5.5 million for five wind farm projects being developed by Dunfermline-based Burcote.

The cash – which was raised from Connection’s high-net worth private clients – will allow Burcote to secure options over the sites and place them in the planning process. The sites could generate 600MW, enough to power 400,000 homes.
