Buckles to leave security group G4S next week

G4S today said that Nick Buckles, who faced tough questioning from MPs last year after the security services firm failed to provide enough staff for the London Olympics, is to stand down at the end of this month.

Buckles, who admitted that the company’s reputation was left in “tatters” following the fiasco, will be replaced by finance director Ashley Almanza.

The group also said the new role of chief operating officer – created following a review into its handling of the Olympics contract – will be filled by Eddie Aston, who is currently chief executive for global sectors at delivery firm DHL.

G4S chairman John Connolly said: “Nick Buckles made a massive contribution to the group over a 28-year career.

“As chief executive he led G4S in the creation of significant shareholder value following the merger of Securicor and Group 4 Falck.”

Almanza added: “G4S is a great global business with enormous long-term potential and I am looking forward to working with a highly experienced and capable management team as we take the business forward.”
