BT rings the changes over free calls

BT CUSTOMERS on the supplier's Evening and Weekend plan now have to wait an extra hour in the evening before calls are free of charge.

Nearly five million people on the plan previously enjoyed free calls from 6pm, while the 8.5 million people on the weekend plan could talk for free from 6pm on Friday until 6am on Monday. As of Thursday, the evening off-peak period now begins at 7pm and finishes at 7am, a move that BT has been criticised for not publicising effectively.

Calls made between 7am and 7pm in households on the Evening and Weekend deals now cost 5.9p a minute.

TalkTalk introduces a similar change on 1 June.
