Border Biscuits sinks teeth into £4.3m investment

The food firm behind the nation's best-selling chocolate-coated ginger biscuit is investing £4.3 million over the next year as it increases production capacity, writes Scott Reid.

Border Biscuits is also introducing new packaging, a new-look website and a major consumer and trade advertising campaign as part of the investment drive.

It is introducing seven characters – The Biscuitiers – with the ad strapline “Border Biscuitiers Bake Better Biscuits”.

Lesley Ann Gray, brand and marketing manager at the Lanark-based firm, said: “Our new packaging was introduced following extensive consumer research and will appeal directly to our loyal customers, who’ve supported the brand for over 30 years as well as attracting new ones to the brand.”

Border Biscuits was founded in 1984 and now turns over almost £15 million. It employs 150 people and donates 10 per cent of its profits to local charities and projects.
