Board moves at transport giant

TRANSPORT group National Express yesterday fulfilled its promise to shareholders to add three non-executive directors to broaden its board's expertise.

The company has appointed Elliott Sander, a former chief executive of New York's Metropolitan Transport Authority, and Joaquin Ayuso, vice-chairman of Spanish group Ferrovial, as well as Chris Muntwayler, who joined the bus and train group in May.

National Express - the UK's largest coach operator and the firm behind the C2C and East Anglia railway franchises - had faced pressure from US hedge fund manager Elliott to make changes to its board.
