Barrhead unveils supermarket outlet plan

BARRHEAD Travel is creating 75 jobs as it launches a network of supermarket concessions to tempt shoppers to pick up a holiday with their weekly shop.

The company has taken advantage of problems affecting rivals to expand, opening 11 branches in the past 12 months and growing profits by 73 per cent last year.

Chief executive Sharon Munro said: “We are always looking at ways to make holiday booking simpler and more accessible for customers and our supermarket concessions are the first of a number of joint ventures we are currently working on.”

The first concession opens at Sainsbury’s in East Kilbride later this month and Barrhead is in talks with other supermarkets. It is also recruiting call centre staff and has vacancies at its Glasgow headquarters.
