Barrhead sets sail on £45m cruise target

Barrhead Travel is targeting £45 million worth of cruise business next year, up 50 per cent on 2010, thanks to an expanded franchise network and relaunched website.

The Scottish holiday firm, which was founded in 1975 and now has 16 branches and some 450 staff, said partnerships with a number of major cruise companies had led to "a raft of deals, rates and flights" that were exclusive to the company and its franchisees.

It also hopes to benefit from developments in cruise booking technology and an increase in the volume of online bookings via its re-launched website, cruisedirect.co.uk.

Jacqueline Dobson, managing director at Barrhead Travel, said: "We now have everything in place that will ensure that we reach our 2011 targets.

"Our long-standing relationship with travel technology company Traveltek has meant that we have been able to develop these features in live situations, so we know that we have covered every known eventuality, and that the product delivers customer satisfaction."

Earlier this year, Barrhead said it was investing 2m to launch its own-brand package holiday programme.
