Audi boosts spend on cars and tech

Audi said yesterday it would invest a bumper €22 billion (£18.4bn) in new models, plants and technology over the next five years.

That equates to €4.4bn a year, compared with €2.6bn in the German carmaker’s budget of December 2011. Sources said earlier this month that the firm planned to increase spending as it steps up efforts to catch larger competitor BMW. Some 70 per cent of Audi’s planned investment will be earmarked for new models and technology.
