Angel is spreading its wings

LIFE sciences firm Angel Biotechnology has notched up its second contract win in as many days after ReNeuron selected the Edinburgh-based company to manufacture more stem cells for its clinical trial in Glasgow.

ReNeuron chief executive Michael Hunt said the latest deal will allow his firm to complete its work with stroke patients at the Southern General hospital, with trials also expected to begin at two other UK sites. He expects a phase-two clinical study to begin next year.

The deal follows on from Angel winning a £400,000 contract on Tuesday from New York-listed Cardium Therapeutics to make collagen for a gel to treat diabetic foot ulcers and other wounds. Angel bought the collagen factory in Glasgow last week from sausage skin maker Devro for £200,000.
