Nicol, who also played for the British Lions during his 20-year sporting career, will work with Central Insurance to develop the firm’s corporate and private client business.

Tom Aldridge, regional director of Central, said: “Andy brings useful insight and contacts for us into our key target clients, as well as a wealth of people development and business performance experience from which we will benefit.”

After ending his playing career, Nicol – who famously captained the national side to victory over England in the final game of the Six Nations in 2000, pictured – joined Royal Bank of Scotland. He is now chief executive of Abstract, a business consulting firm which focuses on people development.

Nicol said: “I understand the necessity of making personal connections and managing each person as an individual.”
