Ana Botin elected as a director of Coca-Cola

Santander UK chief executive Ana Botin has been elected as a director of soft drinks giant Coca-Cola, which this week revealed a drop in quarterly revenues.

Botin has headed the Spanish-owned bank since 2010, when previous boss Antonio Horta-Osorio left to take the top job at Lloyds Banking Group.

Coca-Cola chief executive Muhtar Kent said: “Her knowledge of global macroeconomic issues, experience as an entrepreneur and commitment to sustainable communities will be invaluable as we continue to grow and develop our business around the world.”

The US group blamed weak sales on slow economies and poor weather in key markets, but predicted a recovery in the second half.
